Roles & Responsibilities

• Assess pediatric patients pre-operatively and perform age-appropriate assessments
• Prepare patients and families for surgery with clear, compassionate education
• Coordinate care with the perioperative team to ensure smooth handoffs to the OR
• Perform required pre-op documentation and charting accurately in the EHR
• Monitor patients for changes in status and escalate concerns promptly
• Support safe infection-control practices and perioperative protocols
• Provide emotional support to children and caregivers during the pre-op process

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license (must be eligible to practice in MA)
• Experience or interest in perioperative / pre-operative nursing and pediatrics
• Current BLS certification required; PALS or pediatric-specific certifications encouraged
• Strong communication skills for working with children, families, and multidisciplinary teams
• Comfortable with documentation in electronic health records and perioperative workflows

Education

• Active RN license required
• BSN preferred; ADN/diploma with relevant experience will be considered

Knowledge & Skills

• Pediatric patient assessment and family-centered care techniques
• Familiarity with pre-operative screening, checklists, and perioperative safety
• Ability to triage and escalate clinical findings appropriately
• Clear, calming communication skills for children and caregivers
• Teamwork and collaboration with surgeons, anesthesiology, and OR staff
