Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate pre-operative nursing care to pediatric patients, ensuring safety and comfort
• Perform focused assessments and document patient histories and pre-op findings clearly
• Prepare patients and families for procedures by explaining processes in an age-appropriate way
• Collaborate closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and perioperative staff to coordinate care
• Maintain infection control and sterile technique standards in pre-op areas
• Administer medications and pre-op orders per protocol and document appropriately
• Participate in orientation, training, and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance patient care

Qualifications

• Current, active Registered Nurse (RN) license valid in Washington
• Experience or strong interest in pediatric nursing and pre-operative care
• Basic Life Support (BLS) required; Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) preferred
• Excellent communication skills for working with children and families
• Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced perioperative environment
• Willingness to complete facility orientation as provided

Education

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program (ADN or BSN). BSN preferred.

Knowledge & Skills

• Knowledge of pediatric assessment and age-appropriate care techniques
• Familiarity with pre-op protocols, medication administration, and verification procedures
• Strong documentation skills in electronic health records
• Ability to educate and support families through the surgical experience
• Infection control practices and sterile technique awareness
• Teamwork, adaptability, and situational awareness in perioperative settings
