Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, age-appropriate pre-operative nursing care to pediatric patients
• Perform focused assessments and communicate findings clearly to the surgical team
• Prepare patients and families for procedures with calm, clear education and support
• Maintain accurate pre-op documentation and ensure readiness for surgery
• Collaborate with anesthesia, surgical staff, and other disciplines to ensure smooth patient flow
• Adhere to infection control, safety protocols, and facility policies to protect patients
• Participate in orientation and ongoing training to keep skills current and strong

Qualifications

• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in Washington (or compact RN license where applicable)
• Experience or training in pre-operative care and pediatrics preferred
• BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required; PALS preferred or willing to obtain
• Strong communication skills and ability to educate families with empathy
• Comfort working in a fast-paced perioperative environment and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
• Completion of relevant pediatric or perioperative training preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Understanding of pre-op assessment, pediatric vital signs, and age-specific care
• Skill in IV starts, medication administration, and basic pediatric procedures
• Familiarity with surgical workflows, sterile technique, and safety checks
• Excellent patient/family education and bedside manner
• Ability to document accurately in electronic medical records and follow protocols
