Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate pre-operative assessment and care for pediatric patients
• Perform timely vital signs, screenings, and documentation in the electronic record
• Educate children and families about pre-op instructions and what to expect
• Assist the surgical team with safe patient handoffs and perioperative preparation
• Ensure adherence to infection control and sterile technique standards
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to optimize patient readiness and throughput
• Support a calm, child-friendly environment to reduce anxiety and improve experience

Qualifications

• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license (eligible for Washington licensure or currently licensed in WA preferred)
• Pediatric experience or comfort working with children in a pre-op setting
• Basic Life Support (BLS) required; Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) preferred
• Excellent communication skills for patient/family education and team collaboration
• Ability to pass required background checks and meet facility credentialing requirements

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
• BSN preferred but all qualified RN candidates encouraged to apply

Knowledge & Skills

• Pediatric assessment and age-appropriate communication techniques
• Pre-operative screening, documentation, and patient education
• Familiarity with perioperative workflows and safety protocols
• Medication administration and allergy/safety checks
• Proficient charting in electronic medical records (EMR)
• Strong teamwork, organization, and time-management skills
