Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate post-anesthesia care to pediatric patients in the PACU, ensuring safe recovery from anesthesia
• Continuously monitor and assess vital signs, airway, pain control, and level of consciousness
• Administer medications and interventions per orders and hospital policy, prioritizing patient safety
• Communicate effectively with surgical teams, anesthesiologists, and families regarding patient status and care plans
• Maintain accurate, timely documentation of assessments, interventions, and patient progress
• Participate in orientation and unit-based training to maintain high standards of pediatric PACU care
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary team members to coordinate safe patient transfers and discharges

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license (eligible to practice in Missouri)
• Experience or comfort working in PACU and with pediatric patients
• Current BLS certification required; PALS and/or ACLS preferred
• Strong assessment skills, critical thinking, and ability to triage post-anesthesia needs
• Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced surgical recovery environment
• Willingness to complete facility orientation and comply with credentialing requirements

Education

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program (ADN or BSN)

Knowledge & Skills

• Pediatric post-anesthesia care principles and recovery protocols
• Monitoring and interpreting vital signs, pain management, and airway assessment
• IV therapy, medication administration, and basic emergency response
• Clear, compassionate communication with families and surgical teams
• Accurate clinical documentation and familiarity with electronic health record systems
• Teamwork, adaptability, and infection control best practices
