Roles & Responsibilities

• Assess and monitor patients recovering from anesthesia, ensuring stable vital signs and safe transitions
• Manage airway, pain control, and post-anesthesia complications with calm, skilled hands
• Administer medications and IV therapies according to orders and best practices
• Collaborate closely with anesthesia, surgeons, and perioperative staff to coordinate patient care
• Provide clear, compassionate education to patients and families about recovery expectations
• Document patient status and interventions accurately and promptly to support continuity of care

Qualifications

• Current RN license in Louisiana or active compact RN licensure
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferred or as required by facility
• Prior PACU or post-anesthesia nursing experience preferred (even one year helps)
• Strong critical thinking, communication, and teamwork skills

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Post-anesthesia assessment and recovery management
• Airway management and basic respiratory support
• Pain management strategies and medication administration
• Cardiac and respiratory monitoring and interpretation
• Accurate clinical documentation and handoff communication
• Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced perioperative environment
