Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality, patient-centered nursing care on a 32-bed Medical Specialties/Acute Inpatient unit
- Assess and manage patients—monitor changes, intervene promptly, and escalate when needed
- Administer medications and manage IV therapy safely and accurately
- Perform IV insertion and line/vascular device care, including PICC/central line management when required
- Manage complex airway devices including CPAP/BiPAP and provide respiratory support for common respiratory diagnoses
- Care for feeding tubes and wound VACs, ensuring proper function and documentation
- Safely manage higher-than-usual patient loads when required (willingness to take up to 8 patients occasionally)
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to develop and implement effective care plans
- Maintain accurate, timely documentation and uphold patient safety and infection control standards
- Float to other MS areas as staffing needs dictate, adapting to unit-specific workflows
Qualifications
- Current, active Registered Nurse (RN) license (ability to practice in Missouri)
- Previous Med/Surg nursing experience is required (travel nurse experience expected; first-time travelers not accepted)
- Current CEU documentation required by Boone Health and must be provided during interview
- Demonstrated IV insertion and IV pump operation skills
- Experience with airway support (CPAP/BiPAP) and management of feeding tubes and wound VACs
- Comfort and ability to float to other Medical-Surgical areas and manage varying patient acuity
- Ability and willingness to accept higher patient loads on occasion (up to 8 patients when needed)
- Strong clinical judgment, prioritization, and communication skills
Knowledge & Skills
- Medical-Surgical nursing fundamentals and patient assessment
- Medication administration and multi-drug regimens
- IV therapy, line management, and vascular device care
- Airway management including CPAP/BiPAP
- Wound care and wound VAC management
- Feeding tube care and enteral support
- Use of common unit equipment: IV pumps, bladder scanners, lifts, O2 equipment
- Familiarity with common Med/Surg diagnoses: respiratory, renal, endocrine, GI, dementia, infectious diseases
