Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate personal care to geriatric residents, helping them maintain dignity and comfort
- Assist residents with activities of daily living including bathing, dressing, toileting and mobility
- Take and record vital signs and report any changes in condition to the care team
- Document resident interactions and care accurately and promptly
- Support a safe, clean and therapeutic environment for residents
- Collaborate with nurses and other staff to deliver person-centered care with warmth and respect
Qualifications
- Current Geriatric Nursing Assistant (GNA) certification, ideally valid in Maryland
- CPR/BLS certification or willingness to obtain it promptly
- Previous experience caring for older adults is preferred but entry-level GNAs with strong compassion and reliability are encouraged to apply
- Clear background check and up-to-date health screenings as required by facility policy
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively on a team
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Completion of an accredited GNA training program and state certification
Knowledge & Skills
- Understanding of activities of daily living (ADLs) and basic elderly care needs
- Comfortable with basic resident hygiene and mobility assistance
- Familiarity with infection control practices and safe transfer techniques
- Ability to observe, document and communicate changes in resident condition
- Compassion, patience and strong interpersonal skills with older adults and families
