Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate direct care to geriatric residents, assisting with activities of daily living
- Monitor residents for changes in condition and promptly report concerns to nursing staff
- Support mobility and safe transfers while encouraging independence whenever possible
- Assist with feeding, bathing, grooming, and toileting with dignity and respect
- Maintain clear, accurate documentation of care and observations
- Follow infection control protocols and facility policies to keep residents safe
- Build positive relationships with residents and families through thoughtful communication
Qualifications
- Active GNA or CNA certification (state-required credential)
- Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) certification preferred or willingness to obtain
- Current state-required background checks and health screenings
- Comfort working with elderly adults, including those with dementia or mobility limitations
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work well in a team
- Dependable, punctual, and able to follow assigned care plans
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent
- GNA/CNA certification required
Knowledge & Skills
- Understanding of geriatric care principles and common age-related conditions
- Safe resident handling and transfer techniques
- Basic vital sign measurement and observation skills
- Infection prevention and safe hygiene practices
- Ability to document care accurately and communicate effectively with the care team
- Empathy, patience, and the ability to build rapport with older adults
