Roles & Responsibilities

• Perform thorough preoperative patient assessments and prepare patients for surgery
• Provide safe and skilled intraoperative nursing care, maintaining sterile technique and supporting the surgical team
• Deliver clear postoperative care and education so patients can recover and return to daily life
• Address psychological and socio-cultural needs of patients and their support persons with compassion
• Collaborate closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and perioperative staff to ensure smooth procedures
• Document patient care accurately and contribute to quality improvement efforts
• Anticipate needs in the OR, manage supplies/equipment, and help maintain a safe environment

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license — ability to practice in Iowa (Compact license accepted where applicable)
• Previous perioperative or operating room experience preferred
• Basic Life Support (BLS) required; CNOR or perioperative certification preferred
• Comfort with invasive procedures, sterile technique, and OR workflows
• Strong communication skills and ability to provide patient-centered education and support

Education

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program (Associate Degree in Nursing or Bachelor of Science in Nursing). BSN preferred.

Knowledge & Skills

• Perioperative patient assessment and intraoperative nursing care
• Aseptic and sterile technique mastery
• Patient education and family/support person communication
• Team communication and coordination in fast-paced surgical settings
• Documentation in electronic health records and adherence to clinical protocols
• Ability to address socio-cultural and psychological patient needs with sensitivity
