Roles & Responsibilities
- Assess and triage emergency and trauma patients quickly and accurately
- Deliver high-quality trauma and emergency nursing care in a busy Level 1 ED
- Perform skilled procedures including Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes per facility policy
- Interpret telemetry strips and monitor patients using Phillips monitors
- Maintain sterile field and infection prevention practices during invasive procedures
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams (RT, pharmacy, physicians, midlevels) to optimize patient outcomes
- Document care thoroughly in Cerner and communicate changes in patient condition to leadership
- Participate in SIMs lab, competency checks, lifts/restraints/wound care education, and unit-based training
Qualifications
- Active RN license (eligible to work in AZ)
- Minimum certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS (required)
- TNCC and ATCN preferred; ENPC will not substitute for PALS
- Minimum of 6 months Trauma Level 1 experience required; 2 years ER experience preferred
- Successful completion of required exams (DYS exam prior to acceptance — 2 attempts allowed) and pass/fail orientation assessments/SIMs lab
- Able to float across multiple nearby facilities and have own vehicle for travel teams
- Must comply with facility appearance/fit-test policies (natural hair color, no facial piercings; men clean shaven for fit test)
Education
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) licensure
Knowledge & Skills
- Emergency and trauma care principles for Level 1 centers
- Telemetry strip interpretation and cardiac monitoring
- IV access, central line dressing care, and Foley catheter insertion/management
- Sterile technique and maintenance of a sterile field
- Proficiency with Cerner EMR for charting and med administration
- Familiarity with ventilator/RT workflows and collaborating with respiratory therapy
- Wound care, restraints and safe patient lift techniques
- Comfort working in a fast-paced ED environment with high patient volumes and diverse acuity
