Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate, patient-centered care to psychiatric patients in a correctional medical setting
- Observe, document and report changes in behavior and clinical status accurately and promptly
- Assist with daily living activities and support therapeutic programming as directed
- Use de-escalation and crisis-intervention techniques to maintain a safe environment
- Collaborate with nurses, mental health clinicians and custody staff to support care plans
- Maintain clear, timely charts and complete required documentation and incident reports
Qualifications
- Active Licensed Psychiatric Technician (LPT) license — California required
- Comfortable working in a correctional healthcare setting and following facility protocols
- Basic life support (BLS) or CPR certification preferred or willing to obtain
- Ability to pass facility background checks and required health screenings
- Strong communication skills and a calm, professional demeanor in stressful situations
Education
- High school diploma or GED required; completion of an approved psychiatric technician training program preferred
- Active California LPT licensure required
Knowledge & Skills
- Knowledge of psychiatric patient observation and reporting
- Skills in crisis intervention and safe patient handling
- Familiarity with documentation standards and electronic charting
- Ability to follow behavioral care plans and medication observation procedures
- Strong teamwork, conflict resolution and de-escalation skills
