Roles & Responsibilities

• Assess and monitor adult and geriatric PCU/stepdown patients with keen clinical judgment
• Titrate and manage drips (e.g., Cardizem, beta blockers, seizure meds) safely and per protocols
• Provide cardiac and nephrology-focused nursing care and continuous EEG monitoring when needed
• Document thoroughly and efficiently using EPIC to ensure clear, timely charting
• Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team and charge nurse to optimize patient flow and outcomes
• Respond to acute changes and participate in emergent interventions when necessary
• Educate patients and families about diagnoses, treatments, and discharge planning
• Model unit policies and professional standards (including infection control and fingernail policy) to maintain a safe care environment

Qualifications

• Current, unrestricted RN license for practice (state applicable)
• Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS — bring them with you
• Minimum 2 years of recent acute care/stepdown or relevant clinical nursing experience
• Comfort and experience with EPIC charting systems
• Skilled at titrating drips and managing cardiac/nephrology patient needs
• Valid driver’s license at time of submittal (used to verify radius rule)
• Must not be currently employed full-time, part-time, or PRN with CommonSpirit facilities (including CHI or Dignity) within 50 miles
• Successful completion of orientation including required pass/fail skills exam (90% required) and adherence to onboarding RTO requirements

Education

• Active RN license required
• BSN not required

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong critical thinking and clinical problem solving
• Excellent communication and teamwork on a fast-paced unit
• Familiarity with cardiac, nephrology, stroke, diabetes, and EEG monitoring care
• Medication management and safe titration of continuous drips
• Competence in adult and geriatric patient assessment and interventions
• Ability to work with unit staffing ratios (approx. 1:4-5) and utilize support staff effectively
