Roles & Responsibilities
- Prepare patients for radiology exams and clearly explain procedures to ease worries and ensure cooperation
- Perform diagnostic radiographic procedures accurately and efficiently as ordered by providers
- Position patients using proper technique to capture high-quality diagnostic images
- Operate CR, DR and fluoroscopy equipment safely and competently
- Transfer and manage images in PACS, including scanning documents and routing studies
- Assist radiologists and fluoroscopy techs during special procedures and ensure sterile technique when required
- Perform portable radiography across departments (ED, OR, PACU) and maintain patient and staff safety
- Prepare and administer IV and oral contrast media, and respond appropriately to contrast reactions
- Document patient history, imaging limitations, study details and technologist initials in PACS
- Perform clerical and QA duties such as image release, CD burning, and workflow monitoring to keep the department running smoothly
- Troubleshoot equipment issues and perform simple adjustments to minimize downtime
- Mentor and explain procedures to radiology students as part of teaching responsibilities
Qualifications
- ARRT registration in Radiology (required)
- Completion of an ARRT‑approved Radiologic Technology training program
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification meeting American Heart Association standards (current)
- One year of radiology experience in a hospital, clinic, or physician’s office preferred
- Demonstrated ability with CR/DR/Fluoro equipment, PACS workflows, and contrast administration
- Strong communication skills and ability to follow written and verbal instructions
- Ability to work night shift Sunday through Thursday
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Completion of a specialized Radiologic Technology program accredited/approved by ARRT
Knowledge & Skills
- Solid knowledge of anatomy, physiology and medical terminology
- Radiation safety practices and ALARA principles
- Patient positioning and imaging techniques for diagnostic quality
- PACS image transfer, CD burning and image release workflows
- Portable radiography and operating room imaging procedures
- Equipment troubleshooting and routine start-up/shutdown procedures
- Customer service skills for compassionate patient interactions
