Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate nursing care to patients within a detention center setting while maintaining security protocols
- Administer medications and treatments accurately and document thoroughly in the health record
- Perform patient assessments, triage urgent needs, and escalate emergencies to appropriate providers
- Collaborate with custody staff and interdisciplinary teams to coordinate care and ensure safety
- Maintain strict adherence to facility rules (cell phones are restricted inside secure perimeter) and infection control practices
- Educate patients on health conditions and self-care when appropriate, with respect for the correctional environment
- Accurately complete required documentation, logs, and incident reports in a timely manner
Qualifications
- Current, active RN license in Pennsylvania (required)
- Recent clinical nursing experience; correctional or detention center experience strongly preferred
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; ACLS and PALS a plus
- Ability to pass facility background checks and comply with security procedures
- Strong communication skills and professional demeanor when working with patients and security staff
- Comfort working night shifts and within a secure custody environment
Education
- Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
Knowledge & Skills
- Medication administration and safe documentation practices
- Patient assessment, triage, and emergency response
- Familiarity with electronic health records and charting
- Infection control and universal precautions
- Crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques
- Ability to follow strict security and facility protocols
