Roles & Responsibilities

• Perform thorough nursing assessments and use the nursing process to deliver safe, high-quality care
• Develop, implement and evaluate individualized care plans for antepartum, intrapartum and postpartum patients
• Provide direct patient care during labor and delivery, including fetal monitoring using AWHONN standards
• Educate patients and families on labor, delivery, postpartum care and newborn needs
• Respond quickly and accurately to changes in maternal or neonatal condition and escalate via chain of command when needed
• Supervise and guide other nursing personnel and ensure standards of care in the Birthplace
• Document care clearly and maintain patient safety and infection control practices
• Participate in required competency testing and skills validation to maintain clinical readiness

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license with verification (Nursys)
• AWHONN / Fetal Heart Monitoring certification required
• BLS certification required
• DCI/BVP certification required
• Completion of Prime Basic Pharmacology, Prime Core Competencies, Prime Skills Checklist and Prime Specialty Exam as required
• Negative/clear Prime drug screen (minimum 10-panel) and required occupational health clearances
• Up-to-date immunizations and fit test (COVID-19, MMR, Hep B, Influenza, TB/PPD, Varicella, Tdap)
• Comfortable working per diem night shifts and responding to urgent changes in maternal/newborn status

Education

• Active RN license (California) with Nursys verification
• Graduate of an accredited nursing program (ADN or BSN preferred)

Knowledge & Skills

• Nursing assessment and clinical decision-making in labor and delivery
• Care planning, implementation and evaluation across antepartum/postpartum phases
• Fetal heart monitoring and interpretation (AWHONN guidance)
• Direct patient care skills for labor, delivery and immediate newborn care
• Patient and family education with clear, compassionate communication
• Familiarity with Prime competency testing and skills validation processes
• Ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary birth teams
