Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate hands-on care to residents, including assistance with bathing, dressing, grooming, and toileting
- Support safe mobility and transfers, using proper body mechanics and assistive devices
- Take and record vital signs accurately and report any changes to nursing staff
- Help create a home-like environment by engaging residents in conversation and activities
- Document care and observations clearly and promptly in resident charts
- Follow infection prevention and safety policies to keep residents and coworkers safe
- Communicate effectively with nurses, families, and the care team to support individualized care plans
Qualifications
- Current Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification in New York (or eligible for NY certification)
- Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) preferred or willing to obtain
- Previous experience in long-term care, assisted living, or similar settings is a plus
- Good communication skills and a caring, patient-centered attitude
- Ability to pass required background checks and any facility onboarding screenings
- Reliable, punctual, and able to handle physically active work (lifting, standing, assisting residents)
Education
- High school diploma or GED preferred
- Current CNA certification (required)
Knowledge & Skills
- Understanding of resident activities of daily living (ADLs) and resident dignity
- Ability to take and accurately record vital signs
- Basic knowledge of infection control principles
- Comfortable with bedside care tasks and safe transfer techniques
- Teamwork, time management, and clear communication skills
- Familiarity with electronic health records or willingness to learn charting systems
