Roles & Responsibilities
- Conduct timely Compensation & Pension (C&P) examinations that are non-treatment and interview-focused
- Perform Separation Health Assessments for service members transitioning from duty
- Lead thorough veteran medical interviews to gather relevant history and functional impact
- Complete focused physical assessments including range of motion and muscle strength testing
- Produce clear, well-documented exam reports, addendums, and medical opinions
- Review and interpret diagnostic information as part of the evaluation process
- Coordinate with VES for scheduling, documentation submission, and any required follow-up
Qualifications
- Licensed Nurse Practitioner (NP) or equivalent clinician credential appropriate for role
- Clinical background in family medicine, internal medicine, orthopedic surgery, or general medicine — experience with compensation & pension a plus
- Comfortable performing non-treatment exams and focused physical assessments (ROM, strength testing)
- Ability to complete required VES training and onboarding prior to patient encounters
- For office-based option: maintain your own office within a 50-mile radius of the listed city
- For per diem option: reside within a 50-mile radius of the VES facility used for coverage
- Strong documentation skills and attention to detail for exam reports and addendums
Education
- Nurse Practitioner (NP) degree or equivalent advanced clinical degree
Knowledge & Skills
- Clinical assessment and focused physical examination techniques
- Veteran medical interviewing and history-taking
- Range of motion testing and muscle strength testing methods
- Experience with non-treatment, forensic-style exam documentation
- Ability to create clear medical opinions and complete addendums
- Comfort reviewing diagnostic reports and incorporating findings into exams
- Good time management to complete exams and required administrative follow-up
