Roles & Responsibilities
- Perform one-time, non-treatment Compensation & Pension (C&P) exams and Separation Health Assessments for Veterans
- Conduct thorough medical interviews to collect history and functional impact
- Perform focused physical assessments including range of motion and muscle strength testing when indicated
- Prepare clear, timely clinical documentation and reports following VES practice guidelines
- Complete addendums, medical opinions, and diagnostic review as required by the case
- Adhere to non-treatment exam protocols — no prescribing or ongoing treatment responsibilities
- Participate in required training and onboarding to ensure compliance and quality
- Coordinate with VES administrative teams for scheduling and case completion
Qualifications
- Active Nurse Practitioner (NP) credential and state licensure (able to practice in assigned locations)
- Experience in general medicine or relevant specialties such as family medicine, internal medicine, or orthopedics preferred
- Comfort with non-treatment, exam-focused visits and medico-legal style documentation
- Ability to perform range of motion and muscle strength testing accurately
- Availability for PRN scheduling and willingness to cover local assignments within a 50-mile radius
- Successful completion of required VES credentialing and onboarding prior to patient exams
- Strong written communication skills for concise, evidence-based report writing
Education
- Master’s or Doctoral degree in Nursing (MSN or DNP) with NP certification
- Active Nurse Practitioner state license appropriate for site of service
Knowledge & Skills
- Skilled medical interviewing focused on functional impact and symptom history
- Proficient in focused physical assessment techniques (ROM, strength testing)
- Excellent clinical documentation and report-writing abilities
- Ability to interpret diagnostics and incorporate findings into medical opinions
- Familiarity with non-treatment medical-legal/exam workflows
- Comfortable working independently in your own office or at local facilities
- Time management to complete exams and required administrative follow-up
- Adaptability to variable schedules and local assignment needs
