Candidate Pay Rate: $65 per hour

Roles & Responsibilities
- Design and deliver therapeutic recreation activities tailored to mental health needs
- Lead group and individual sessions that build coping skills and social functioning
- Assess participant progress and document outcomes clearly and professionally
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to coordinate care plans
- Adapt activities to a correctional environment while maintaining safety and therapeutic focus
- Provide crisis intervention and de-escalation when needed
- Support program development and contribute ideas to improve patient engagement
Qualifications
- Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) preferred or equivalent certification
- Valid state credentials or licensure as required for Recreational Therapy
- Experience working in mental health settings; correctional experience is a strong plus
- Current CPR and First Aid certification
- Ability to pass background checks and clearance required for work in a state correctional facility
- Excellent communication, documentation, and group facilitation skills
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Recreation Therapy, Therapeutic Recreation, Recreational Therapy, or a related behavioral health field
Knowledge & Skills
- Knowledge of therapeutic recreation principles and activity planning
- Strong group facilitation and motivational skills
- Familiarity with mental health interventions and recovery-oriented care
- Ability to document clinical progress and produce clear reports
- Crisis management and de-escalation techniques
- Cultural sensitivity and the ability to build rapport in challenging environments
