Roles & Responsibilities

• Prepare and maintain sterile field and surgical instrumentation for a variety of procedures
• Assist the surgical team during operations by anticipating instrument and supply needs
• Perform instrument counts and documentation to maintain patient safety and regulatory compliance
• Set up operating room equipment and verify functionality prior to procedures
• Participate in orientation and training to integrate seamlessly with the Shriners surgical team
• Collaborate with nurses, surgeons, and support staff to ensure efficient case flow and excellent patient care
• Maintain sterile technique and adhere to infection control protocols at all times

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technologist program or equivalent training
• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) or eligible preferred; on-the-job support for certification is possible
• Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification or willingness to obtain during orientation
• Prior experience in an operating room setting is a plus, but motivated new grads are welcome
• Strong attention to detail, ability to follow sterile technique, and excellent teamwork skills

Education

• Completion of an accredited Surgical Technologist program (or equivalent certificate/diploma)
• High school diploma or GED required

Knowledge & Skills

• Familiarity with common surgical instruments, sterilization processes, and OR workflows
• Ability to anticipate surgeon needs and maintain composure in high-pressure situations
• Good documentation practices and basic computer literacy for electronic records
• Strong communication skills to coordinate with multi-disciplinary surgical teams
• Knowledge of infection control standards and sterile field maintenance
