Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, high-quality nursing care to Neuro Stepdown patients with focused neurological assessment
• Monitor and interpret telemetry and neurologic status, acting promptly on changes
• Administer medications and therapies safely and accurately, following protocols
• Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team—physicians, therapists, and specialists—to coordinate patient care
• Document assessments, interventions, and patient progress in the electronic medical record clearly and timely
• Educate patients and families about condition, care plan, and discharge instructions with empathy
• Respond effectively to urgent situations and support safe patient transfers to higher levels of care when needed
• Participate in unit-based quality improvement and patient safety initiatives

Qualifications

• Current RN license in Louisiana or compact RN eligible
• Basic Life Support (BLS) required
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferred
• Experience in stepdown, telemetry, or neuro patient care preferred
• Comfort working 12.5-hour shifts and in a fast-paced acute care environment
• Strong critical thinking, communication, and teamwork skills

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Neurologic assessment and monitoring
• Telemetry and cardiac rhythm interpretation
• IV medication administration and infusion management
• Proficient documentation in electronic medical records
• Patient and family education techniques
• Effective triage and escalation for acute changes
• Time management and prioritization for high-acuity patients
• Collaborative communication with interdisciplinary teams
