Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide expert respiratory assessment and deliver age-appropriate respiratory care to neonatal, pediatric and adult patients
• Initiate, monitor and manage mechanical ventilation and life support systems per physician orders
• Perform airway management including endotracheal intubation, suctioning and tracheostomy care
• Obtain and interpret arterial blood gases and adjust ventilator settings to support patient stability
• Operate pulmonary function testing and pulse oximetry equipment and report results for physician decision making
• Participate on the resuscitation team, providing manual ventilation and airway support during emergencies
• Educate patients and families on respiratory treatments, breathing exercises and home care plans
• Maintain equipment, follow infection control procedures and document treatments accurately

Qualifications

• Hawaii Respiratory Therapist License required
• Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) or Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRTT) recognized by the National Board of Respiratory Care desirable
• Current cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) competence
• Experience with mechanical ventilation, arterial blood gas analysis and ventilator weaning
• Comfort working with neonatal and pediatric populations as well as critically ill adults
• Ability to work flexible shifts including evenings, weekends and holidays
• Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset

Education

• Desirable: Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) or Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRTT) recognized by the National Board of Respiratory Care
• Hawaii Respiratory Therapist License required

• Mechanical ventilation and ventilator management
• Airway management and endotracheal intubation
• Arterial blood gas (ABG) collection and interpretation
• Pulmonary function testing and pulse oximetry
• Chest physiotherapy and secretion management
• Polysomnography (sleep studies) and EEG electrode placement basics
