Roles & Responsibilities

• Perform accurate and timely testing in blood bank, hematology, and chemistry to support urgent clinical decisions
• Respond confidently to massive transfusion situations and collaborate with the trauma team to ensure safe patient care
• Maintain strict quality control, troubleshooting instruments and assays when needed
• Document results and interventions clearly in Epic to support continuity of care
• Float between Mission Viejo and Laguna Beach labs as operational needs dictate
• Communicate effectively with nursing and physician teams to expedite critical lab results
• Adhere to laboratory policies, safety protocols, and regulatory standards to protect patients and staff

Qualifications

• California state Clinical Lab Scientist license required
• BLS certification required
• ASCP certification preferred
• Minimum 2 years of clinical laboratory experience required, with strong blood bank experience
• No first-timers; candidates should demonstrate solid prior experience in acute care/trauma lab settings
• Pending licenses are not accepted; active, clear licensure required
• Ability to include RTO (return-to-office/availability) at time of submission as requested

Education

• Completion of an accredited Clinical Laboratory Scientist / Medical Laboratory Scientist program
• California Clinical Lab Scientist licensure required

Knowledge & Skills

• Expertise in Blood Bank procedures and transfusion medicine
• Proficiency in hematology and clinical chemistry testing
• Experience working in a trauma/acute care hospital environment
• Familiarity with Epic charting and electronic result reporting
• Strong quality control and problem-solving skills for lab instrumentation
• Flexibility to float between locations and cover variable weekend needs
• Clear communication and teamwork skills to work with multidisciplinary clinical teams
