Roles & Responsibilities

• Perform generalist clinical laboratory testing across hematology, chemistry, coagulation, serology, and blood bank to deliver accurate, timely results
• Process, type, and crossmatch blood bank specimens and maintain transfusion records with excellent attention to detail
• Execute gram stains and rapid kit testing in accordance with protocols and quality standards
• Document results and workflows in the LIS/EMR (EPIC preferred) to ensure clear communication with clinical teams
• Follow quality control, safety, and regulatory procedures to maintain a safe and compliant lab environment
• Troubleshoot instrumentation and testing issues and escalate to leadership or service as needed
• Work independently with minimal overlap while coordinating handoffs and continuity of care
• Participate in orientation and ongoing training to keep skills current and help mentor newer staff

Qualifications

• MLT or MT certification required (ASCP or AMT accepted)
• Minimum 2+ years as a generalist including blood bank experience
• Comfortable working independently with minimal shift overlap
• EPIC/LIS experience preferred
• Willingness to work evening shifts, every other weekend, and holidays
• Driver's license must be submitted (60-mile radius requirement)
• BLS not required for this position

Education

• MLT or MT certification (ASCP or AMT required)

Knowledge & Skills

• Generalist testing across hematology, chemistry, coagulation, serology, and blood bank
• Blood bank procedures including typing, crossmatch, and transfusion record-keeping
• Gram stain technique and rapid kit testing
• Familiarity with EPIC and laboratory information systems (LIS)
• Strong quality control, documentation, and troubleshooting skills
• Understanding of lab safety, infection control, and regulatory compliance
• Clear verbal and written communication with clinical teams
