Roles & Responsibilities

• Assess patient respiratory status and deliver individualized respiratory care
• Manage ventilators and perform ventilator checks to ensure optimal support
• Administer respiratory treatments and therapies safely and effectively
• Perform arterial blood gas collection and interpretation to guide therapy
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to create and follow care plans
• Document treatments, progress, and patient responses in the medical record
• Respond to respiratory emergencies and participate in critical care interventions
• Educate patients and families on respiratory care, equipment use, and discharge planning

Qualifications

• Current Respiratory Therapist credential (CRT/RRT) — state licensure required or eligible to obtain
• BLS required; ACLS and PALS preferred or as required by unit
• Clinical experience in acute care, ICU, or similar settings preferred
• Strong critical thinking, communication skills, and teamwork mindset
• Ability to work 12.5-hour shifts and adapt to unit needs

Education

• Associate's degree in Respiratory Therapy or equivalent required; Bachelor's degree preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Mechanical ventilator management and weaning protocols
• Airway management, suctioning, and oxygen therapy techniques
• Arterial blood gas (ABG) sampling and interpretation
• Familiarity with electronic health records and accurate documentation
• Infection control practices and patient safety focus
• Ability to work collaboratively across disciplines and prioritize tasks
