Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-acuity critical care to adult and adolescent trauma patients in a Level 1 Trauma ICU, managing complex diagnoses like ARDS, MODS, sepsis, stroke and cardiac arrest
• Safely titrate vasoactive drips, sedatives, paralytics and other infusion therapies while documenting changes and responses
• Manage and troubleshoot ventilators and advanced respiratory support; collaborate with RT for optimal patient breathing support
• Continuously interpret telemetry and central monitoring (Draeger); act quickly on arrhythmias and clinical deterioration
• Care for patients with invasive monitoring and devices (arterial lines, Swan-Ganz, IABP, Impella, EV-1000, ICP monitoring) and accept on-the-job training when provided
• Collaborate closely with interdisciplinary teams—physicians, respiratory therapy, techs and support staff—to deliver coordinated, patient-centered care
• Serve as charge nurse when assigned and support unit operations and staffing needs
• Complete required orientation and competency assessments (including a pass/fail open-book exam during orientation) to demonstrate readiness

Qualifications

• Active RN license in good standing (driver's license required at submittal to confirm radius)
• Required certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS
• Minimum 2 years of critical care / ICU nursing experience (per job posting)
• Comfortable with telemetry interpretation, ventilator management and drip titration
• Able to work 12-hour night shifts and meet weekend coverage requirements
• Must have a clean license/background (no hits) and not be currently employed full-time/part-time/PRN with CommonSpirit/CHI/Dignity; first-time travelers not accepted
• Willingness to complete orientation (2 shifts) and pass the required competency exam (90% pass threshold)

Education

• Active RN license (state of practice required)
• BSN not required

Knowledge & Skills

• Critical care nursing and trauma care fundamentals
• Ventilator management and respiratory support troubleshooting (nasal cannula to vents, high-flow/CPAP/BiPAP)
• Telemetry interpretation and centralized monitoring (Draeger)
• Drip titration for vasopressors, sedatives, paralytics and antiarrhythmics
• Familiarity or willingness to train on Swan-Ganz, arterial lines, CVP, IABP, Impella, EV-1000 and ICP monitoring
• Experience with EPIC charting system
• Comfort with rapid transfuse equipment and hypothermia protocols (Zoll Thermoguard, Bellmont)
• Strong critical thinking, communication and teamwork skills
