Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, high-quality nursing care to Step-Down Unit patients with complex needs
• Continuously assess and monitor patient status, including telemetry and hemodynamic changes
• Administer medications, IV therapies, and treatments safely and accurately
• Collaborate with physicians, RNs, and the interdisciplinary team to implement effective care plans
• Document patient care thoroughly and timely in the electronic health record
• Educate patients and families about diagnoses, procedures, and discharge plans
• Participate in unit-based quality improvement and patient safety initiatives

Qualifications

• Current, active RN license in the state of Louisiana (or compact license as applicable)
• Experience working in a Step-Down Unit, telemetry, or progressive care environment preferred
• BLS certification required; ACLS strongly preferred or as required by facility
• Strong clinical assessment skills and comfort managing cardiac/respiratory monitoring
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills; patient-centered mindset

Education

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program (ADN or BSN). BSN preferred where available.

Knowledge & Skills

• Telemetry interpretation and cardiac rhythm monitoring
• Post-operative and progressive care nursing practices
• IV therapy, medication administration, and infusion pump competency
• Patient assessment, triage, and early recognition of clinical deterioration
• Proficient documentation in electronic health record systems
• Critical thinking, prioritization, and time management in fast-paced settings
