Roles & Responsibilities

• Perform pre-operative assessments and prepare pediatric patients and families for procedures
• Provide clear, compassionate education to children and caregivers about pre-op instructions
• Coordinate with surgical and perioperative teams to ensure smooth patient flow
• Document assessments, care plans, and pre-op checklists accurately in the record
• Assist with IV starts, medication administration, and monitoring as appropriate for pre-op care
• Advocate for patient comfort and safety while maintaining a calm, child-friendly environment

Qualifications

• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license (ability to practice in Ohio preferred)
• Experience or strong interest in pediatric nursing and pre-operative care
• Basic Life Support (BLS) required; PALS preferred or willingness to obtain
• Comfort working with children and their families, excellent communication skills
• Ability to pass required background checks and meet facility onboarding requirements
• Participation in the paid orientation prior to patient assignment

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Foundational pediatric assessment and pre-operative nursing knowledge
• Ability to perform clinical tasks such as vital signs, IV starts, and medication administration
• Strong documentation practices and familiarity with electronic health records
• Excellent interpersonal skills for working with children, parents, and multidisciplinary teams
• Time management and prioritization for shorter (5-hour) pre-op encounters
