Roles & Responsibilities

Prepare pediatric patients and their families for procedures with clarity and compassion
Conduct thorough pre-operative assessments and document findings accurately
Administer pre-op medications, start IVs, and monitor vital signs as ordered
Coordinate care with surgical teams, anesthesia, and pediatric specialists
Follow infection control and safety protocols to protect patients and staff
Provide family-centered education and clear discharge instructions
Participate in orientation, training, and quality improvement initiatives

Qualifications

Active Registered Nurse license in Massachusetts (or eligible for licensure)
Basic Life Support (BLS) required; Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) preferred
Experience in pediatric nursing or pre-op settings preferred
Comfortable with EHR documentation and clinical workflows
Strong communication skills with children and families, and the ability to work collaboratively
Ability to meet facility background check and immunization requirements

Education

Graduation from an accredited nursing program (ADN or BSN). BSN preferred

Knowledge & Skills

Pediatric assessment and age-appropriate communication techniques
Pre-operative nursing workflows, checklists, and safety protocols
IV therapy, medication administration, and monitoring vital signs
Electronic health record documentation best practices
Patient and family education with a calm, reassuring approach
Team coordination in fast-paced surgical environments
