Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide expert post-anesthesia recovery care for pediatric patients in the PACU
• Continuously assess and monitor vital signs, pain levels, and recovery progress
• Administer medications and interventions safely and per policy
• Communicate clearly and compassionately with surgical teams and families
• Document patient status, interventions, and handoffs accurately and promptly
• Advocate for patient safety and comfort, ensuring smooth transitions of care

Qualifications

• Current, active RN license in Missouri (or compact RN eligible)
• Experience in PACU or post-anesthesia recovery, preferably with pediatric patients
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; PALS preferred
• Strong assessment and clinical decision-making skills in the post-op setting
• Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams
• Comfortable with documentation and electronic medical records

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Clinical knowledge of anesthesia emergence and common pediatric recovery needs
• Skill in pediatric pain assessment and age-appropriate interventions
• Familiarity with PACU protocols, airway management basics, and monitoring equipment
• Excellent communication skills with both families and clinical teams
• Ability to prioritize and respond to changes in patient condition quickly
• Compassionate bedside manner and family-centered care approach
