Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide focused post-anesthesia care to pediatric patients, ensuring safe emergence from anesthesia
• Monitor vital signs and recovery parameters, intervening quickly when changes occur
• Collaborate with anesthesia, surgical teams, and pediatric specialists to coordinate patient care
• Educate families on recovery expectations and discharge instructions with compassion and clarity
• Document patient status, interventions, and outcomes accurately in the medical record
• Participate in orientation and unit-based training to maintain high standards of pediatric PACU care

Qualifications

• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license (Ohio licensure required or eligible)
• Experience or strong interest in pediatric nursing and Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) practice
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) preferred
• Comfortable managing pediatric airways, pain control, and post-anesthesia complications
• Strong communication skills for interacting with families and interdisciplinary teams
• Ability to complete required orientation prior to independent assignment

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN); BSN preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• In-depth understanding of PACU protocols and pediatric recovery considerations
• Skilled in patient monitoring, assessment, and early recognition of deterioration
• Familiarity with pediatric medications, dosing, and pain management strategies
• Competence with electronic medical records and accurate clinical documentation
• Teamwork mindset and ability to collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and support staff
