Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate post-anesthesia care to pediatric patients, monitoring recovery and responding to clinical changes
• Perform focused assessments and document patient status, vitals, and interventions accurately
• Collaborate with anesthesiologists, surgeons, and multidisciplinary team members to ensure safe handoffs and continuity of care
• Administer medications and manage pain control per protocol, while educating families on recovery expectations
• Maintain a safe and comforting environment for children and their families, using age-appropriate communication
• Participate in unit orientation, trainings, and quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient outcomes

Qualifications

• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in Massachusetts or ability to obtain prior to start
• BLS (Basic Life Support) required; PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) highly preferred
• Experience in PACU, post-anesthesia, or pediatric nursing preferred
• Comfortable with pediatric patient assessments and age-appropriate interventions
• Strong teamwork, communication, and critical thinking skills
• Ability to pass required background checks and meet facility onboarding requirements

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Knowledge of post-anesthesia recovery protocols and monitoring standards
• Skill in pediatric patient and family-centered communication
• Proficiency in recognizing and responding to airway, breathing, and circulation concerns
• Familiarity with medication administration and pain management in children
• Documentation accuracy and use of electronic health records
• Ability to multitask in a fast-paced perioperative recovery environment
