Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate post-anesthesia care for pediatric patients in the PACU
• Monitor vital signs, airway status, pain levels, and recovery progress closely
• Assess patients and intervene promptly to maintain safety and stability
• Collaborate with anesthesiologists, surgeons, and multidisciplinary team members to coordinate care
• Document patient assessments, interventions, and handoffs accurately in the medical record
• Educate and support families during the immediate post-operative period
• Participate in orientation and unit-based trainings to maintain excellence in practice

Qualifications

• Current, active Registered Nurse (RN) license for Massachusetts
• Experience or interest in Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) and pediatric care
• BLS required; PALS and ACLS preferred or willingness to obtain
• Comfort with pediatric airway management, pain control, and post-op assessments
• Strong communication skills for family-centered care and interdisciplinary teamwork
• Ability to complete orientation and adapt to perioperative workflows

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Pediatric post-anesthesia assessment and recovery protocols
• Airway and respiratory monitoring for post-op patients
• Pain assessment and management techniques tailored to children
• IV therapy, medication administration, and safety checks
• Accurate and timely electronic medical record documentation
• Effective patient and family education skills
• Teamwork and clear clinical handoff practices
• Basic perioperative and PACU-specific monitoring equipment familiarity
