Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide focused post-anesthesia care for pediatric patients, ensuring safe recovery from anesthesia
• Continuously monitor vital signs and patient status, intervening promptly as needed
• Assess pain and comfort, implement appropriate pain management and nonpharmacologic strategies
• Collaborate with anesthesiologists, surgeons and the perioperative team to coordinate care
• Educate families on recovery expectations, discharge instructions and home care
• Document patient assessments, interventions and progress clearly and timely in the medical record
• Participate in unit orientation and ongoing quality improvement initiatives

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license for the state of Ohio
• Experience or training in Post-Anesthesia Care and pediatric patient care (preferred)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification; Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) encouraged
• Comfort with pediatric assessments, patient monitoring and pain management
• Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced perioperative setting

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN); BSN preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Post-anesthesia care and recovery protocols for pediatric patients
• Pediatric nursing principles including growth, development and family-centered care
• Patient monitoring, recognition of post-op complications and rapid intervention
• Safe medication administration and pain management techniques
• Effective documentation and use of electronic medical records
• Teamwork, situational awareness and clear communication under pressure
