Roles & Responsibilities

• Assess and monitor pediatric patients in the post-anesthesia care unit to ensure safe, effective recovery
• Administer medications and treatments as ordered, with attention to pediatric dosing and safety
• Collaborate with anesthesiologists, surgeons, and the perioperative team to coordinate seamless handoffs
• Provide clear, compassionate education and updates to families about recovery and discharge instructions
• Maintain accurate documentation of patient status, interventions, and recovery milestones
• Recognize and respond quickly to changes in clinical status, initiating appropriate escalation when needed
• Participate in orientation and unit-based quality improvement initiatives to improve patient care

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license (eligible to practice in Ohio)
• Experience or strong interest in PACU nursing with pediatric patients
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) preferred
• Comfortable working in fast-paced perioperative/post-anesthesia environments and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams
• Excellent communication skills with both clinical colleagues and families

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Pediatric assessment and monitoring in the immediate post-anesthesia period
• Airway management basics, pain assessment, and symptom management for children
• Familiarity with PACU protocols, recovery milestones, and pediatric dosing principles
• Skilled in clinical documentation, critical thinking, and rapid recognition of deterioration
• Strong teamwork, time management, and patient/family-centered communication
