Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide expert post-anesthesia care for pediatric patients in the PACU
• Continuously assess patient status and respond promptly to changes
• Manage airway, IVs, pain control, and emergence from anesthesia
• Collaborate with anesthesiology, surgery, and multidisciplinary teams for seamless care
• Document patient care accurately in the medical record and communicate handoffs clearly
• Educate and support families through the immediate postoperative period
• Adhere to safety protocols, infection control, and pediatric-specific best practices

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) credential
• Experience or background in PACU and pediatric patient care preferred
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required or obtainable
• Comfort with pediatric assessment, airway management, and post-op monitoring
• Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced setting
• Willingness to complete required orientation prior to independent shifts

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Pediatric post-anesthesia assessment and monitoring
• Familiarity with PACU workflows and patient handoffs
• IV management, pain assessment, and basic airway support
• Accurate electronic medical record documentation
• Calm decision-making and prioritization in acute situations
• Patient and family education with compassion and clarity
