Roles & Responsibilities
- Coordinate and deliver comprehensive nursing care for patients of all ages in the emergency/acute setting
- Make independent clinical decisions during shifts and consult leadership for complex situations
- Assess patients, administer medications, and manage treatments while documenting in the EMR
- Supervise and delegate to CNAs/Techs, ensuring safe and effective patient care
- Transcribe physician orders and ensure accurate charting and medication administration records
- Maintain infection control procedures and assure patient/resident safety
- Participate in developing and implementing department policies, care plans, and nursing standards
- Evaluate emergencies, initiate appropriate interventions, and notify physicians of incidents
- Manage supplies, equipment needs, and complete required administrative forms and reports
- Support training and professional development of department personnel
Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing (BSN, ADN, or Nursing Diploma)
- Current full, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in Alaska or another U.S. state required
- Direct hire candidates must have applied for an Alaska nursing license before start date; agency staff must have an active Alaska license
- BLS, ACLS, and PALS required or must be obtained within 6 months of hire and maintained biannually
- TNCC preferred and required for Emergency Department nurses
- Clinical Competency assessment required within 3 months and every three years
- High Risk Competency required within 3 months and annually
- High school diploma or equivalent minimum
- Ability to lift/move up to 50 lbs and handle the physical and emotional demands of emergency nursing
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Nursing, Associate's degree in Nursing, or Nursing Diploma (graduation from an accredited school of nursing)
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong patient assessment and medication administration skills
- Emergency nursing and acute care practices
- Proficient nursing documentation and use of electronic medical records
- Infection control and isolation techniques
- Ability to work independently and make sound clinical judgments in emergent situations
- Supervisory skills for delegating and overseeing support staff
- Familiarity with laws, regulations, and guidelines relevant to hospital and long-term care
- Effective communication and teamwork across disciplines
- Triage and pediatric care experience are beneficial
