Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide thorough psychological assessments and deliver individual and group therapy tailored to correctional populations
• Develop and implement evidence-based treatment plans that promote mental health and reduce risk
• Collaborate closely with custody staff and multidisciplinary teams to coordinate care and communicate treatment needs
• Conduct crisis intervention and risk assessments with calm, timely clinical decision-making
• Document clinical encounters clearly and timely in accordance with facility and regulatory standards
• Facilitate rehabilitative programming and psychoeducation to support inmate well-being and reintegration
• Adhere to facility security procedures while maintaining therapeutic rapport and professional boundaries

Qualifications

• Current and active California licensure as an LMFT, LCSW, LPCC or equivalent clinical license accepted for this role
• Credentials that meet facility requirements for providing psychological services in a correctional setting
• Comfort and experience working within secure or forensic environments preferred
• Ability to pass required background checks and meet facility clearance criteria
• Strong clinical judgment, ethical practice, and effective communication skills with diverse populations

Education

• Master's degree in Counseling, Social Work, Psychology or related field required for LMFT/LCSW/LPCC candidates
• Doctoral degree (PhD/PsyD) preferred if practicing as a licensed psychologist

Knowledge & Skills

• Trauma-informed care and familiarity with evidence-based modalities (e.g., CBT, DBT principles)
• Risk assessment and crisis intervention skills appropriate for forensic/correctional settings
• Ability to create clear clinical documentation and treatment plans
• Collaborative teamwork across disciplines, including custody and medical staff
• Cultural competence and ability to engage individuals from diverse backgrounds
• Understanding of confidentiality, mandated reporting, and legal/ethical standards in correctional care
