Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, patient-centered psychiatric care to individuals in a correctional setting
• Conduct focused observations and monitor patient behavior for safety and clinical changes
• Assist with implementation of treatment plans and therapeutic activities
• Perform timely and accurate documentation to maintain clear clinical records
• Collaborate closely with nurses, mental health clinicians, and security staff to coordinate care
• Use de-escalation and crisis-intervention techniques when needed to maintain a safe environment
• Support patients with daily living needs and encourage recovery-focused goals

Qualifications

• Active Licensed Psychiatric Technician (LPT) credential — newly licensed clinicians welcome
• Comfortable and professional working within a correctional facility (SVSP - Salinas Valley State Prison)
• Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate with a multidisciplinary team
• Ability to complete facility onboarding and required orientation prior to assignment
• Dependable, patient-focused, and able to work scheduled evening shifts

Education

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Completion of a state-approved psychiatric technician program as required for LPT licensure

Knowledge & Skills

• Patient observation and therapeutic communication
• Behavioral health support and basic psychiatric interventions
• Crisis prevention, de-escalation, and safe restraint principles
• Accurate clinical documentation and reporting
• Team collaboration within a security-conscious environment
• Time management and ability to prioritize patient safety
