Roles & Responsibilities

• Perform accurate transthoracic, transesophageal, M-Mode and color-flow Doppler echocardiography studies ordered by physicians
• Conduct exercise stress and pharmacological echocardiography with care and precision
• Perform additional cardiac diagnostic tests as assigned, including EKGs, Holter preparation/monitoring/analysis, and cardiac stress testing
• Operate and maintain echocardiographs, cardiac stress systems, electrocardiographs and Holter monitors to deliver high-quality diagnostic data
• Use hospital information systems for scheduling, processing and correct charging of all studies
• Apply infection control practices, aseptic technique and equipment disinfection consistently
• Provide age-specific care, including neonatal and pediatric echocardiography, demonstrating sensitivity and appropriate technique
• Serve as a professional resource to physicians, nursing staff and students; provide preceptorship and clinical instruction when needed

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required
• Registered Cardiac Sonographer credential required
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
• Successful completion of an echocardiography certification program and/or 2 years hands-on echocardiography experience
• Preferred: Certificate in Cardiovascular Sonography and extensive hospital-based echocardiography experience
• Preferred: Experience with pediatric and neonatal echocardiography
• Comfortable providing preceptorship or clinical instruction to students

Education

• High School Diploma or GED (required)
• Certificate in Cardiovascular Sonography (preferred)

Knowledge & Skills

• Transthoracic and transesophageal echocardiography techniques
• Color-flow Doppler and M-Mode imaging
• Exercise stress and pharmacological echo testing
• EKG acquisition and interpretation basics
• Holter monitor setup, monitoring and analysis
• Familiarity with cardiac stress systems and echocardiography equipment
• Experience with hospital information systems for scheduling and billing
• Infection control, aseptic technique and equipment disinfection practices
• Ability to provide age-specific care including neonatal and pediatric patients
