Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide age-specific preventive and curative periodontal and dental hygiene care to infants through geriatric patients
• Perform oral examinations, periodontal therapy, coronal polishing, and topical fluoride applications
• Take and interpret dental radiographs (x-rays) and record vital signs as needed
• Measure and document periodontal pockets and maintain accurate patient records
• Educate patients on oral hygiene, home care, and nutrition to prevent oral disease
• Manage patient schedules and coordinate dental prevention activities such as health fairs, sealant clinics, and Head Start clinics
• Maintain hygiene supplies and instruments, including proper sterilization and infection control procedures
• Perform other duties as assigned to support the clinic and patient care

Qualifications

• Graduate of a two-year Dental Hygiene program required; Bachelor’s degree preferred
• Active Dental Hygiene License in the State of Alaska or another U.S. state (Alaska license preferred)
• Pass the National Board Examination for Dental Hygienists
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within 45 days of start and maintained thereafter
• Clinical Competency assessment required within 3 months of hire and every 3 years
• High Risk Competency required within 3 months of hire and annually thereafter
• High school diploma or GED

Education

• Graduate of a two-year Dental Hygiene Program (required)
• Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong knowledge of infection control and sterilization techniques
• Understanding of dental and periodontal disease processes and appropriate therapies
• Proficiency in dental radiography (x-rays) and measuring periodontal pockets
• Excellent oral and written communication skills for patient education
• Accurate clinical judgment and strong manual dexterity
• Experience coordinating community prevention activities such as sealant clinics
