Roles & Responsibilities

• Assess and triage patients rapidly and accurately in a busy emergency department
• Provide skilled direct patient care, including medication administration and IV therapy
• Perform advanced life support interventions following BLS and ACLS protocols
• Conduct NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) assessments when stroke is suspected
• Collaborate with physicians, techs, and ancillary teams to coordinate timely care
• Document patient status and interventions clearly and promptly in the EHR
• Participate in required competency exams, skills checklists, and specialty testing
• Maintain infection control, safety protocols, and required immunizations

Qualifications

• Current and valid state RN license
• Minimum 2 years recent emergency department nursing experience
• Current BLS required upon hire and to be maintained
• ACLS required within 30 days of hire and to be maintained
• NIHSS certificate required
• BSN preferred
• RN-C preferred within 2 years of hire
• PALS required within 30 days for units that admit pediatric patients
• NRP, DCI/BVP, and Nursys verification as listed by facility
• Compliance with facility health screening and required immunizations

Education

• BSN preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong emergency nursing and rapid patient assessment skills
• Proficiency with BLS, ACLS, PALS, NRP life support protocols
• NIH Stroke Scale scoring and stroke recognition
• Triage, trauma care, and acute medical management
• IV therapy, medication administration, and advanced nursing interventions
• Clear clinical documentation and familiarity with electronic health records
• Calm, decisive clinical reasoning in high-pressure situations
• Excellent communication and teamwork across interdisciplinary teams
