Roles & Responsibilities

• Sterilize, assemble, and prepare surgical instruments and trays to support safe patient care
• Perform decontamination, inspection, and packaging of surgical instrumentation with meticulous attention to detail
• Maintain accurate SPD records and log competency checks to meet regulatory standards
• Respond promptly and professionally to on-call requests, including overnight coverage and weekend rotations
• Collaborate with perioperative and clinical teams to ensure instruments are available and sterile for procedures
• Participate in required competency exams and skills checklists to maintain high standards of care
• Follow infection control policies, fit testing, and safety procedures to protect patients and staff

Qualifications

• Sterile Processing (SPD) experience in an acute care setting (required)
• BLS certification (required)
• DCI/BVP certification (required)
• Willingness to stay local and accept rotating weekends and overnight on-call shifts
• Completion of Prime Core Competencies Exam, Prime Skills Checklist, and Prime Specialty Exam (per checklist)
• Successful license/certificate verification and current health requirements
• Ability to pass required health screenings: COVID-19 vaccine, MMR, influenza, Hepatitis B, TB test, Varicella, Tdap, fit test, drug screen, and color-blind testing

Knowledge & Skills

• Thorough knowledge of sterilization processes, instrumentation, and tray assembly
• Strong attention to detail and infection control best practices
• Ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced perioperative environment
• Good communication and teamwork skills when coordinating with OR and clinical staff
• Comfort responding to on-call requests and adapting to rotating schedules
• Familiarity with competency testing and documentation requirements
