Roles & Responsibilities
- Assess and monitor maternal and postpartum patients, providing compassionate, evidence-based care
- Perform fetal heart monitoring and interpret results to guide timely clinical decisions
- Provide skilled postpartum and intrapartum support, including vaginal examination assistance
- Respond to neonatal emergencies using NRP protocols when needed
- Document thoroughly and accurately in EPIC to ensure continuity of care
- Collaborate with physicians, midwives, and the interdisciplinary team to create patient-centered plans
- Educate patients and families about postpartum recovery, newborn care, and discharge plans
- Maintain compliance with required screenings, vaccinations, and competency testing
Qualifications
- Current, valid RN license (required)
- BLS, NRP, and ACLS certifications (required)
- Nursys registration active
- EPIC charting experience (required)
- AWHONN or Intermediate Fetal Monitoring certification (preferred)
- Postpartum care and vaginal examination experience (preferred)
- BSN preferred
- Ability to pass Prime competency exams, drug screen, fit test, and required immunizations/vaccines
Education
- Current RN license
- BSN preferred
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong fetal heart monitoring skills and interpretation
- Proficiency with EPIC electronic charting
- Neonatal resuscitation (NRP) and maternal/newborn emergency response
- Excellent communication and patient education skills
- Critical thinking and rapid decision-making in a busy OB/postpartum setting
- Infection control practices and adherence to vaccination/testing protocols
- Teamwork and ability to collaborate across disciplines
