Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide expert surgical nursing care for neurosurgery patients throughout the perioperative continuum
- Assess and monitor neurological status, intervene promptly, and escalate concerns to the surgical team
- Coordinate care with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and multidisciplinary colleagues to ensure safe, efficient procedures
- Prepare patients and families with clear, compassionate education before and after surgery
- Maintain sterile technique, accurate documentation, and adherence to unit protocols
- Participate in on-call rotations (10-12 days/month) to provide urgent perioperative support
- Contribute to quality improvement initiatives and uphold patient safety standards
Qualifications
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) credential (as listed in core skills)
- BLS certification (required)
- NIHSS certification (required)
- License/Certificate Verification required prior to start
- Experience or training in surgical nursing and neurosurgery preferred
- Willingness to participate in on-call rotation (10-12 days/month)
Knowledge & Skills
- Clinical expertise in neurosurgical patient care and perioperative nursing
- Strong neurological assessment and monitoring skills
- Proficiency with sterile technique, surgical instrumentation awareness, and operating room workflows
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills for multidisciplinary coordination
- Ability to prioritize, make timely clinical decisions, and document accurately
- Comfort with on-call responsibilities and responding to urgent surgical needs
