Roles & Responsibilities
- Develop and implement therapeutic recreation programs tailored to patients with mental health needs
- Lead group and individual sessions that promote social skills, coping strategies, and community integration
- Assess patient progress, document outcomes, and adjust treatment plans to maximize therapeutic benefit
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to coordinate care and contribute to treatment planning
- Provide crisis de-escalation and behavior management support when needed
- Deliver patient-centered care that respects dignity, safety, and correctional environment policies
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Recreational Therapy, Therapeutic Recreation, or related field preferred
- Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) or willingness to pursue certification is a plus
- Experience working with mental health populations; correctional setting experience is highly desirable
- Current CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)
- Ability to pass background checks and meet facility clearance requirements
- Strong interpersonal, documentation, and group-facilitation skills
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Recreational Therapy, Therapeutic Recreation, or related field preferred; equivalent experience considered
Knowledge & Skills
- Therapeutic recreation modalities and activity planning for mental health
- Group facilitation and engagement techniques
- Behavior management and crisis intervention strategies
- Clinical documentation and outcome measurement
- Collaborative communication with interdisciplinary teams
- Familiarity with correctional facility safety and security procedures
