Roles & Responsibilities

• Assist surgeons intraoperatively as the Registered Nurse First Assistant, providing skilled technical support and clinical decision-making
• Provide perioperative patient assessment and continuous advocacy throughout the surgical episode
• Perform first-assist duties including tissue handling, retraction, suturing, hemostasis and wound closure as appropriate
• Maintain strict sterile technique and ensure operative field safety for optimal patient outcomes
• Document all perioperative care accurately and efficiently in Cerner
• Collaborate with anesthesia, surgeons, and the multidisciplinary OR team to streamline patient flow and safety
• Participate in unit orientation and ongoing competency activities to stay current with practice standards

Qualifications

• Active RN license eligible for submission in the state of California
• Certified Registered Nurse First Assistant (CRNFA) or RNFA credential required
• Current ACLS and BLS (AHA) certifications required
• Minimum 2 years of acute care and/or operating room experience
• Willingness to complete required orientation (12 hours) prior to assignment

Education

• Nursing degree (ADN/ASN or Diploma acceptable); BSN not required

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong perioperative nursing knowledge and first-assist techniques
• Experience in acute care and OR environments
• Proficient with Cerner charting and electronic documentation
• Excellent sterile technique, instrumentation familiarity, and surgical workflow understanding
• Clear communication, teamwork, and the ability to anticipate surgical team needs
