Roles & Responsibilities

• Assess pediatric patients before surgery with calm, thorough clinical evaluations
• Prepare patients and families for procedures through clear, compassionate education
• Perform pre-op nursing tasks such as vitals, airway assessment, and IV starts when needed
• Document assessments and care plans accurately in the electronic medical record
• Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and perioperative teams to ensure safe, timely care
• Participate in orientation and training to maintain best practices and pediatric safety standards
• Advocate for the needs and comfort of children and their caregivers throughout the pre-op process

Qualifications

• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in Missouri or eligibility to obtain one
• Experience or strong interest in pediatrics and pre-operative nursing
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) preferred
• Excellent communication skills for working with children and families
• Ability to complete required orientation and clinic-specific training

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)

Knowledge & Skills

• Pediatric assessment and age-appropriate communication techniques
• Pre-operative nursing workflows and safety checks
• Familiarity with IV starts and basic perioperative procedures
• Accurate EMR documentation and charting practices
• Strong teamwork and handoff communication
• Patient and family education focused on reassurance and clarity
