Roles & Responsibilities

• Manage and optimize mechanical ventilation for adult patients, including setup and weaning
• Perform airway management tasks such as intubation assist, extubation, and tracheostomy suctioning
• Monitor and troubleshoot ventilators (Draeger, Servo I) and high frequency oscillator equipment
• Administer respiratory medications and nebulizer treatments safely and accurately
• Interpret ABGs and basic EKGs to inform clinical decision-making
• Conduct pulmonary function testing and assist in the outpatient clinic as needed
• Room and assess patients, obtain histories, vitals, and assist providers during exams and procedures
• Communicate effectively with patients, families, pharmacies, and interdisciplinary teams
• Document care and interventions clearly; assist with authorization, imaging scheduling, and MyChart support
• Float to other campuses as needed to support patient care and unit coverage

Qualifications

• Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) required
• Current ACLS, BLS, NRP, and PALS certifications required
• Minimum 2 years clinical respiratory experience (experience in adult critical care, ED, PICU or pediatrics preferred)
• Experience with Draeger and Servo I ventilators and ventilator troubleshooting
• Knowledge of insurance/authorization processes is required
• Comfortable floating to other campuses; first-time travelers accepted
• Strong patient/family communication skills and outpatient clinic experience a plus

Education

• Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential required; formal respiratory therapy education (certificate/associate degree) preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Airway management and suctioning techniques
• Mechanical ventilation management and weaning strategies
• BiPAP and CPAP setup and management
• High frequency oscillator familiarity and alarm troubleshooting
• ABG interpretation and basic EKG reading
• Nebulizer therapies and medication delivery systems
• Pulmonary function testing (PFT) experience
• Patient rooming, MyChart navigation, and phone triage
• Specimen collection, venipuncture, TB testing, and immunizations
• Authorization processing, imaging scheduling, and pharmacy communication
